The Diocese of Ahoada Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Rivers State has called on the Federal Government to wake up to its responsibilities and provide robust security to the people that voted them into power. The church decried the present situation in the country, where kidnapping, banditry, poverty have created unprecedented inflation and killing of innocent Nigerians.

The church during its Third Session of the Sixth Synod, which was presided by the Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Rev. Clement Nathan Ekpeye, called on Nigerians, irrespective of their tribes and creeds to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVC), and vote wisely in 2023 general elections.

Urging Christians to anchor their faith in God and acknowledge Jesus Christ as the answer to their problems, the synod advised Christians to express wisdom in “exercising their franchise and make decisions that will alleviate the sufferings of the people through their votes.”

The church in a communiqué made available to The Guardian, asked the Federal Government and leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to resolve the issues between them and allow the students to go back to school.

Held last Sunday at St. Patrick’s Church, Edeoha Town, Rivers State, the Synod, ended with a special Thanksgiving Service and was attended by thousands of faithful including, His Imperial Majesty, Eze (Sir) Kelvin Ngozi Anugwo, Eze Ekpeye Logbo III of Ekpeyeland; His Majesty, Nye Udu Felix Enene Otuwarikpo, Nye Udu Upata III of Upata Kingdom; and a host of other personalities.
