For improved Internet connectivity in Abia State, the state government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with an ICT and broadband technology company, WIOCC.

The state governor, Dr Alex Otti, who spoke after the signing of the MoU in Umuahia, said that WIOCC is to deploy fibre optic to boost Internet connectivity across the state’s 17 local government areas.

“The signing of the MoU marks a turning point in the socio-economic development of the state as the company would commence the survey of the whole state immediately to implement the project in line with the terms of the MoU,” Otti stated.

The General Overseer of Omega Power Ministries (OPM), Apostle Chibuzo Gift Chinyere, was in the company of the WIOCC Group. Noting that Internet connectivity would positively impact the educational, health and other state institutions, Governor Otti added that the investment would facilitate networking across the villages and communities including creating direct and indirect employment.

According to the governor, the investment will also put in place the electronic transmission of files in healthcare, civil service, education including corporate governance, which will thus further progress and flourish the state in line with global trends.

Lauding the WIOCC Group as one of the reputable companies in Africa that have the infrastructure for Internet connectivity, he commended them for considering partnering with Abia for the project.

Speaking, the WIOCC Group Chief Executive and Development Officer, Derren Bredford, said that besides Lagos wherein they already did remarkable work, his company considered Abia for the investment based on Governor Otti’s dynamism and innovation within his few months in office.

“We are poised for this partnership that will ensure effective Internet connectivity across the state, adding that the project can generate over 1,000 direct jobs and potential for thousands of indirect ones
