Galaxy Backbone Limited (GBB) has successfully delivered broadband connectivity to nine previously underserved Local Government Areas (LGAs), bringing reliable internet access to communities that were once beyond reach.
In a statement on Monday, GBB’s Head of Corporate Communications, Chidi Okpala, said the milestone was achieved in just two years under the leadership of the current Executive Management Team. The project is part of Project 774, aimed at strengthening national digital infrastructure and promoting inclusion across Nigeria.

“This initiative extends digital access to communities that previously lacked reliable internet. It reflects our ongoing mission to build Nigeria’s digital backbone and support socio-economic development,” Okpala said.
Other key achievements over the past two years include the completion of Fibre-to-Hostel projects at the University of Lagos, University of Abuja, and University of Jos, enhancing research and digital learning environments for students. Strategic national assets, such as the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport and Federal Secretariats, were also connected to improve operational efficiency and service delivery.
Okpala highlighted GBB’s partnership with the West Indian Ocean Cable Company (WIOCC), which has strengthened Nigeria’s national fibre backbone, improved redundancy, and enabled scalable broadband expansion to more states and underserved communities.

Beyond infrastructure, Galaxy Backbone has enhanced sovereign digital capabilities through the 1Government Cloud platform, supporting Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) with secure hosting and shared services. The locally developed GovMail solution now serves over 100,000 federal civil servants.
Other upgrades include cybersecurity monitoring, colocation services, and data centre operations, while the Service Desk now operates 24/7 to support stakeholders nationwide.
“Over the past two years, our work has expanded digital inclusion, strengthened infrastructure, and improved service delivery. The broadband rollout to nine LGAs is a testament to our commitment to connecting communities and building a digitally inclusive Nigeria,” Okpala said.

He added that GBB has earned over 20 national and international awards, recognizing its innovation, service delivery, and contributions to Nigeria’s digital transformation.
“Purposeful leadership, strategic partnerships, and consistent execution deliver tangible results. We remain committed to expanding connectivity, strengthening cybersecurity, and building a resilient digital foundation for Nigeria’s future,” Okpala emphasized.
