The Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Charles Ebuebu, said the current digital revolution is not a disruption, but an invitation to innovate.
To this end, he said, the Commission was organising Africast 2025 to change the digital narratives. Addressing journalists in Lagos, he disclosed that the event is themed: “Navigating the Digital Surge: Building a Resilient African Media Ecosystem.”
He added that the Commission is targeting attendees from across the globe, including media professionals, investors, policymakers, regulators, and creative talents.
To Ebuebu, the 2025 edition will be the most transformative and scheduled for October 20th to 24th, 2025, in Lagos. Specifically, he said the initiative will foster inclusivity, improve media regulation, and support emerging creators and advertisers in adapting to the rapidly evolving digital landscape.
To him, “Africast will reflect the ongoing digital evolution in content creation, distribution, regulation and consumption.
“Our focus is to elevate young creatives, integrate emerging technologies like AI, and create a platform for collaboration, innovation, and impactful policy conversations.”
Ebuebu said there would be masterclasses, exhibitions, film showcases, and tech product unveilings, workshops and roundtables focusing on AI, data affordability, content monetization, and new media regulations; regional studio partnerships to empower creatives with low-cost production access; as well as launch of new content guidelines and policy reforms aimed at safeguarding digital content integrity.
