As Lagos govt moves to strengthen digital safety with cybersecurity guidelines
National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has emphasised the critical role of Nigeria’s human capital in driving national development and positioning the country for global competitiveness.
The NITDA Director General, Kashifu Inuwa, stated this while receiving a delegation from the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children’s Education at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja, at the weekend.
Inuwa noted that Nigeria’s youthful and rapidly expanding population presented a unique opportunity at a time when many countries were facing ageing populations and declining workforces
He explained that the global demand for technical talent was projected to significantly outstrip supply by 2030, creating a window for Nigeria to emerge as a major contributor to the global workforce.
The NITDA boss stressed that the country had the potential to become a global talent hub and a net exporter of skilled professionals.
He described Nigerians in the diaspora as valuable national assets who contribute through remittances and knowledge transfer, noting that diaspora inflows remain one of Nigeria’s most stable sources of foreign exchange.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Government has released a set of Cybersecurity Guidelines, a strategic framework designed to enhance digital safety for businesses, public institutions, and residents.
In a statement yesterday, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Salau, said the development represented another decisive step in Lagos’ mission to become a SMART, secure, and globally competitive digital hub.
The guidelines note that while Lagos is rapidly evolving into a SMART City, the progress brings heightened vulnerability to cyber threats.
The newly issued guidelines, available at https://lagosstate.gov.ng/cybersecguide, outline clear, practical, and scalable cybersecurity best practices for small businesses, medium and large enterprises, and Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
