The Destin Daniel Cretton-directed movie centers on the real-life story of Walter McMillian (played by Jamie Foxx), who’s in prison for the murder of an 18-year-old woman despite evidence proving his innocence. Michael B. Jordan plays Stevenson, a young attorney and Harvard graduate who takes his talents to Alabama to defend the wrongly condemned and/or those without proper legal reps, McMillian included.

Based on it’s captivating trailer, the film looks like a surefire Oscar contender, and the campaign for Jordan as a Best Actor hopeful is already underway.
Brie Larson, Rob Morgan, Tim Blake Nelson, Rafe Spall, and O’Shea Jackson also star. The script was co-penned by Cretton with Andrew Lanham and is, as previously mentioned, based on Stevenson’s Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption.
The film is set to hit theaters on December 25th 2019.
