Kano State Government has suspended clubs, concerts, street parties and other large social gatherings till further notice.

The Commissioner for Information, Garba Mohammad, stated yesterday that the restrictions had to be enforced because the people’s safety and welfare could not be toyed with.

According to him, the ban earlier imposed on the activities of viewing and event centres is extended to clubs, concerts, street parties and other large social gatherings to combat the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

He said government would continue to engage all the stakeholders in sensitising the populace on the need to maintain physical distancing to combat the pandemic.

The state government said it would not hesitate to bring the full weight of the law against any person or organisation caught breaching public health regulations and protocols.

It pointed out that security operatives had been mandated to ensure full compliance without exception.

Civil servants in the state, excluding teachers, judicial workers and others on essential service, have been directed to stay at home as part of measures to curtail further spread of COVID-19.

The state’s COVID-19 Emergency Response Team confirmed 17 persons dead in the last six days after COVID-19-related complications.

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, yesterday, declared the resurgence of the virus in Kano, but reassured his government’s readiness to combat the spread with equal measures.

He had earlier directed traditional and religious institutions to take the campaign of strict compliance to safety protocols to the grassroots.
