Obaseki, Shaibu, others to take vaccine Monday

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki will, on Monday, March 15, 2021, take the COVID-19 vaccine during the roll out of the state’s vaccination exercise.

The state received its allocation of the vaccines on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 from the Federal Government as the state government intensified efforts to contain the spread of the pandemic.

Health Educator at the Edo State Primary Healthcare Development Board, Mrs. Irene Uabor, said the state received 81,080 vaccines meant for about 40,000 persons in the state.

“The state has taken delivery of the AstraZeneca vaccine and will commence vaccination from March 15, 2021. Governor Obaseki and his wife, Betsy, Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu and wife, will receive their first jabs that day.

“Chief Judge of the state, Chief Justice Esther Edigin and her husband are also in line to take the vaccine,” she said. She noted that about 22 persons would take the vaccine, after which frontline workers, especially those working in isolation and treatment centres, would receive theirs.

Uabor explained that the state would prioritise health workers, while those working in isolation centres at the Stella Obasanjo Hospital, Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital and the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) would get the vaccine due to their exposure in the line of duty.
