Plateau, police, civil defence caution against lawlessness

Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State and the state Police Command as well as the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have warned against lawlessness during the celebration.

A statement yesterday by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Samuel Emmanuel Nanle, the governor stressed the virtues of sacrificial love for humanity in giving alms to the poor and the needy, of the festival, urging the adherents to reflect on the significance of the religious obligations by putting to use the spiritual lessons learnt during the period of the fast in consolidating on the peace the state is enjoying.

Lalong stressed the need for gratitude to Allah for their fulfillment of one of the cardinal pillars of the religion.

He assured that government had put machinery in place to ensure security of lives and property.

On its part, the police said that it was determined to provide maximum security.

In a statement yesterday by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Deputy Superintendant Abuh Emmanuel, the force reminded the public that the ban on use and sale of fireworks remained in force.

Also, the NSCDC said it had deployed 2,000 officers to monitor the situation of things before, during and after the celebration, adding that the team was working with sister security agencies to ensure the security of lives and property.

A statement yesterday by the state NSCDC Commandant, Olusupo Solomon, implored residents and visitors to go about their normal business with moderation.
