Bishop of Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Diocese of Akure, Rt. Revd. Simeon Borokini has charged President Muhammadu Buhari to proffer immediate remedies to the pains and agonies the masses are going through.
Borokini stated this in his 2016 charge delivered to the first session of the 12th Synod at St. Stephen’s Church, Iju, in Akure North local council of Ondo State.
According to him: “There is no doubt that most Nigerians are passing through tough times, enduring much pains and suffering and even a lot of indignities like lack of electricity to power their homes.
“There are other grave worries as well, namely: joblessness or non availability of jobs, a high poverty incidence and hunger, especially in an economy that is largely comatose.”
The Bishop noted that these have meted tremendous hardship on the masses, referring mainly to the recent hike in the pric of petrol and other petroleum products, which he said, have overbearing and negative multiplier effects on the people’s livelihood.
The clergy, who said the hike, “is being seen, understandably, in some quarters as an unkind cut from a government that professes a progressive agenda,” also lamented the security challenges and the activity of the nomadic Fulani herdsmen to their hosts.
“The increasing militancy of what we all thought were the simple nomadic Fulani herdsmen is becoming too sophisticated that it is assuming a new dimension and raising more suspicions of a hidden agenda being played out.”
The Bishop, who admitted that the President Buhari-led administration is making some moves to salvage the ugly situations and ensure that the nation is healed of the ills of the past administrations, also added that the present government is not sensitive enough to the plights of the poor people.
