The Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), popularly known as Shiites has announced plans by a faceless group, to launch attacks in some parts of the country and blame it on its members.

The Islamic group said yesterday, that the plot was uncovered through its independent inquiry, which they decided to make public. In a statement issued by its spokesman, Mallam Ibrahim Musa, the group said it would continue to harp on the injustice melted against them in Zaria, when soldiers killed their members last year.

The statement reaffirmed its resolve to “use all available legitimate and peaceful means to express our grievances, even though we have seen many intelligence reports trying to stage false attacks and blame it on the Islamic Movement in Nigeria.”

The statement added that the IMN, under the leadership of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky wants all Muslims to uphold the “virtues of good neighborliness and eschew intolerance of other people’s opinion, in our day-to-day dealings with fellow countrymen.”

Musa warned, “Those in positions of authority to maintain the trust reposed in them and avoid abuse of power and disregard for due process in carrying out their assignments.”

The statement emphasised that Islam means total and unconditional submission to the will of Allah, of which peaceful coexistence with our neighbors is key.
It counseled the Muslim Ummah to rid itself of the shroud of violence, which its enemies try to associate Islam with by all means.

The group commended the press; international human rights activists and organisations that have stood by it in its quest for justice, in an attack in which over 1000 of its members were killed.

“As we look forward to the forthcoming months, we still demand for the unconditional release of Sheikh Zakzaky and other members of the Islamic Movement currently in detention,” the statement read.
