Borno State Government is to partner the Association of Professional Women Engineers in Nigeria (APWEN) in the empowerment of women and youths.
The collaboration of APWEN and the state government will also help in developing infrastructure destroyed in the 12-year terrorism in the state, The Guardian gathered.
Announcing the partnership during the investiture of Elizabeth Jumoke, at the weekend, in Victoria Island, Lagos, Governor Babagana Zulum noted engineering as one of the most challenging professions across the globe.
Represented by the Commissioner for Inter-Governmental Affairs, Kabir Wanori, the governor added: “The assertion of challenge brought to the fore the importance of the engineering profession in a developmental perspective.”
According to him, terrorists have destroyed most of the facilities critical to the development of Borno. He noted that the practice of engineering must, therefore, catch up with the changing technology and climate change.
While expressing delight in female engineers, he called on parents and the Federal Government to support women’s education, “as they are the bedrock of any society.”
