One dies, houses, shops burnt as tanker explodes in Lagos

A tanker laden with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) popularly referred to as petrol, yesterday, crashed and exploded into flames at Ajegunle Bus-Stop, Alagbado, along Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, leaving one dead.

Several houses, among other property, were burnt in the inferno, as men of the state fire service and the police were deployed in the area.

According to Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Adeseye Margaret, the fire from the incident, which occurred around 3 am on Friday, was successfully put out.

She said the emergency, which was reported at 2:16.a.m. on Friday resulted from a tanker meant to service Ayinde Oil Fuel Station at Ajegunle.

The tanker accidentally spilled its 45, 000 litres contents while negotiating a bend towards the fuel station, resulting into fire.

The nefarious activities of scoopers at the Toll Gate end of the road spread the spill through some roadside makeshift shops at the bus stop. 
   
The Director confirmed that a male adult died as a result of the fire, while three other vehicles aside the tanker and shops, were affected by the inferno.
