
The beneficiary, 12-year-old Wealth Sokari, is a Junior Secondary School (JSS1) student of Community Secondary School, Bukuma village in Degema Council of the state.
25-year-old Ekong, a graduate of Pure Chemistry, said he met Sokari in his Place of Primary Assignment (PPA) and was moved by her brilliancy, he decided to assist his family.
The corps member pledged to pay the pupil’s school fees from JSS 1 to Senior Secondary School 3 (SSS 3).
He said: “She is a brilliant pupil and I decided to develop her passion for learning as well as improve her intelligence quotient, (IQ), that is why I am doing this for her and her family.
While calling on the government to prioritise the education sector, Ekong said creating enabling environment by building more classrooms in schools would help pupils develop good learning abilities.
Responding, the mother of the beneficiary, Mrs. Sokari, shedding tears of joy, thanked Ekong for his kind heart.
She said: “I never expected help to come from someone I have never met. This scholarship came when it is most needed.”
