The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Youth wing, Northeast Nigeria, has refuted rumours that the Northern Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) pulled out of its national body and formed what is called the ‘Northern Nigerian Christian Association.’

A statement signed by the Chairman, Youth Wing Northeast CAN, Mr. Misal Musa, and made available to The Guardian in Gombe, said the Youth Christian body in the Northeast is not aware of such development, contrary to the claims published in some national dailies.

Part of the statement read: “Our attention has been drawn to some publications, and claims by one Reverend Luka Shehu and Peter Luka stating that Northern Christians have withdrawn their membership from the national body of the Christian Association of Nigeria. To correct the wrong impression this development has created on innocent Nigerians, it became necessary on our part to speak out that we will continue to have faith, and remain loyal to the leadership of Christian Association of Nigeria.”

The statement stated that, he (Shehu), has never been delegated or nominated to speak on behalf of Northern Christians, and that any information from him (Shehu) or any other person or group, apart from elected or recognised CAN officials, should be disregarded.
