Civil societies hold rally in Osun, lament worsening security, economy

Seek removal of CP over alleged extra-judicial killing
Members of Osun Civil Societies Coalition, yesterday, bemoaned the worsening insecurity and economic quagmire in the country.

They, therefore, urged government at all levels to protect life and property, as well as guarantee a transparent process as the nation moves to another election year.

The civil rights activists held their yearly June 12 rally in Osogbo, Osun State capital, to mark the nation’s Democracy Day.

Chairman of the coalition, Waheed Lawal, lamented the state of insecurity in the country and expressed disappointment that 23 years after, Nigerians are still facing hardship in all strata of life, stressing that the continued ailing of the economy portends the insensitivity of the nation’s leaders to the plight of the masses.

Saka, who called for immediate transfer of Osun State Commissioner of Police (CP), Wale Olokode, condemned the continued harassment, intimidation and killing of harmless citizens by policemen. He also called on the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to rescue residents of the state from trigger-happy and blood sucking policemen.”

Also, a member of the coalition, Ayo Ologun, has stressed the need for a free, fair and transparent process in the build-up to the July 16, 2022 governorship election in Osun and the general elections next year.
