The police in Rivers have arrested a 34-year-old man, simply identified as Preye, for allegedly defiling his female lover’s nine-year-old niece for four years.
   
A source, Mr. Boma Totty, who is an uncle to the victim, said the suspect was arrested when he came to visit his female lover (the minor’s Aunty) on Sunday night and is presently detained at Ozuoba Police Division, in Obio/Akpor Local Council of Rivers State.
    
Totty told The Guardian that Preye was arrested on Sunday after continuously defiling the nine-year-old girl, who is almost 13 years old now, for four years.  
    
According to him, Preye (suspect) had in December 2019, visited the house of his female lover, but she was not at home.
 
The source said the suspect took advantage of the absence of his female lover and allegedly defiled her niece, who was a nine-year-old then.
 
He stated that the suspect brought out calabash and other fetish items from his vehicle after allegedly defiling the minor, and administered an oath of secrecy on her with the charge that she and her family members would die if she disclosed what transpired.
   
“The suspect subsequently, continued assaulting the minor for almost four years, until family members started observing the minor’s flamboyant lifestyle.

“Upon interrogation, the minor, who would be 13 years this year, disclosed that it was ‘Uncle’ Preye, her aunty’s male lover, who has been showering her with money and gift items in exchange for having carnal knowledge of her for years,” Totty said.
 
Meanwhile, the family of the victim has called for justice on the matter.
 
Also, the chairperson of Legal Care Advocacy Foundation, Jane James, while reacting to the incident called on the police to ensure a thorough investigation of the matter.
  
She stressed that the organisation will ensure that justice is served if the suspect is found culpable.
