Members of the Adoration Ministry in Enugu, yesterday, embarked on a protest with verbal attacks directed at the Enugu Catholic Bishop, Callistus Onaga, for the clampdown on Fr. Ejike Mbaka’s Ministry.

The Catholic Church had, Friday, banned Catholics from attending the Adoration Ministry, following Mbaka’s recent utterances against Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Mr. Peter Obi.

In his reaction, Mbaka, announced that from yesterday, all Adoration programmes have been suspended until further notice.

However, the congregation, who gathered yesterday morning at the adoration ground in Emene started a massive protest against the Bishop.

At the time of filing this report yesterday, the protest was ongoing within the adoration ground.

The members of the ministry forcefully stopped a journalist from the BBC Igbo service, who was covering the protest live.

The angry adorers were heard chanting anti-Onaga songs, among which was ‘Onaga Must Go.’

Some of the members, who spoke to The Guardian, stated that the protest was provoked by the attempt to cage Mbaka and close the adoration ministry.

They stressed that they won’t stop the protest until the Catholic Church rescinds the order.

Meanwhile, heavy security personnel were mobilised to guard Bishop Onaga’s residence as fear of a possible attack grew.

The last time a similar protest was embarked upon by adorers, the bishop’s house at Igboeze street, Independence Layout, Enugu, came under attack.
