President, Ijebu Muslim College Old Students’ Association (IMCOSA62- 68 set), Ademola Shote, has lamented the falling education standard, especially in public schools, saying there is an urgent need to address the problems to save public education.
Shote, who expressed concern at the diamond anniversary celebration of the association which took place at the Knowledge Hall of Ijebu Muslim College, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, faulted mass admission into secondary schools and promotion into higher classes.

He said: “In our days, students were admitted into secondary schools on merit, but that is not the cse anymore. There was also competition to higher classes as opposed to current mass promotion of pupils.
“We need to change the current trend of mass admission and promotion to restore the lost standard.
Shote who also took a swipe at parents who encourage their wards to cheat, stressed the need for government to properly fund the sector and for private sector to assist in this regard.
Chairman, Publicity Committee and Past National President, IMCOSA, Ahmed Lawal, used the occasion to appeal to striking university teachers sheath their sword, return to the roundtable and reach a compromise for the sake of the students.
