The Minister of Transportation, Muazu Sambo, has pointed to the completion of the Lekki deep seaport project at the end of the year as a sign of improved revenue for the country.

Sambo, in a statement signed by his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Dr. Sam Idiagbonya, after the minister’s visit to Taraba at the weekend, said the deep seaport project would help to address the unemployment issue ravaging the economy as it would create over 112,000 jobs.

The minister added that the importance of the project would also impact positively on the country’s economy, as it is the first of its kind to be in operation in Nigeria.

“It is significant because the largest ships in the world can berth at the Port. That means, more tonnage, more cargo, improved revenue for the port and the country as well as more economic activities. There will be more jobs – over 112, 000 direct and indirect jobs will be created as a result of the Lekki deep-sea port.

“This will be in the first few years and as activities expand, the number of jobs will even multiply and that is what is good for us. The more jobs we have, the more our ability to put food on the table of many Nigerians,” Sambo was quoted as saying.”
