The Kano Governorship Candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) and member, House of Representatives, Municipal Federal Constituency, Shaaban Ibrahim Sharada, has commiserated with Kantin Kwari Market traders over property and millions of naira lost to Monday flood in Kano.

Besides, Sharada lamented that concerned authority neglected their primary responsibility of ensuring proper management of the environment and allow the needless disaster to overwhelm residents’ property.

The statement signed by spokesperson, Sharada Governorship campaign movement, Abbas Yusahu, insisted that government must act fast on the environmental architecture of the state to avoid a recurrence of the disaster.

According to the ADP gubernatorial candidate, all hands must be on deck especially the market traders and stakeholders to put an end to the menace now threatening business activities in Kano.

Sharada emphasised that if given the chance in the forthcoming 2023 elections, he will make sure he incorporate relevant stakeholders to deploy proper and aggressive town planning for the whole of Kano.

He said part of the town planning is to construct modern drainages and water channels of international standard to prevent future occurrence and ensure business goes smoothly.

Sharada urge the traders who lost property and goods worth millions to take solace and regard it as a test from the Almighty Allah and pray to an end to the flood.

He added that he has travelled overseas and consulted with technocrats on how best to make Kano a befitting city for business and commercial activities at Kwari Market is optimised.

“One of the problems I faced with the present government of Kano State was drawing its attention to the encroachment of spaces in public places such as markets, mosques and graveyards.

Sharada said it was unfortunate that for over 50 years no encroachment was recorded around Kwari Market, which resulted to a disastrous flood as a result of Ganduje administration’s negligence and lack of sincerity for business activities to boom in the state.

He accused the government of negligence that now resulted in erecting shops on drainages and waterways which Kano found itself.

Sharada further called on wealthy individuals to desist from buying plots around public vicinities which results in the destruction of lives and property.
