Hitman’ vows to rock ‘Gentle Boy’ in ‘Street Rumble 2’ in Ajegunle

Boxing

Boxing fans in Lagos and its environs have been assured of one of the most entertaining nights in the game when the “Street Rumble 2” holds in Ajegunle, on December 13.

Organisers of the boxing fiesta, Match Makers Sports International, yesterday, officially confirmed the blockbuster super-welterweight main event for “The Street Rumble Season 2,” and it is a fiery clash between Michael “Hitman” Ani and two-time West African welterweight champion, Taiwo “Gentle Boy” Olowu, at Maracana Square in Ajegunle, Lagos.

The air in Ajegunle is already thick with tension. This is not just a prizefight—it is a reckoning long overdue.

When Michael “Hitman” Ani and Taiwo “Gentle Boy” Olowu were first booked to collide on April 20, 2025, the boxing community held its breath. The storyline was electric: pride, contrasting styles, and the raw grit of Nigerian pugilism.

Then, heartbreak struck. A week before the bell, a brutal training camp arm injury forced Ani’s withdrawal and left fans robbed of a modern classic and as well forced the former national title challenger, Ani into a long, lonely road of rehabilitation.

Now, the calendar turns to December 13, 2026, and the ghosts of 2025 are stepping back into the light.

Promoter Mike Adeyemo and Match Makers Sports International are bringing the storm straight to Ajegunle’s Maracana Square. Billed as a classic civil war, the super-welterweight showdown pits Ani’s redemption hunger against Olowu’s polished, two-time West African championship pedigree.

To raise the stakes to legendary proportions, American boxing royalty has answered the call: 1988 Olympic Gold Medalist and former WBO World Heavyweight Champion, “Merciless” Ray Mercer, will fly in as a special ringside guest, casting a watchful eye over a new generation of African warriors.

Under the open Lagos sky and the grassroots energy of Ajegunle pulsing through the crowd, it will be more than just punches to be thrown—there will be pride, scars, and unfinished history finally meeting in the middle of the ring.

“This is the fight the fans have been waiting for, and the tension has reached a boiling point,” said CEO of Match Makers Sports International, Mike Adeyemo.

Adeyemo promised that this headline bout is just the beginning of an apocalyptic night of fights, teasing that subsequent announcements for a stacked undercard and release details will be unleashed very soon.

The stage is set, the date is locked, and the streets of Ajegunle are ready to rumble.
