Reps Whip applauds President over assent to bills
Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions has cleared President Muhammadu Buhari’s nominees as Non-Executive Directors (NED) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The Chairman, Uba Sani, in a statement, yesterday, explained: “The four reappointed NEDs, who were screened, are Prof. Mike Obadan, Prof. Justitia Nnabuko, Prof. Ummu Jalingo and Mr. Adeola Adetunji.
“The nominees were asked a wide range of questions on the mandate of the CBN, the challenges it is facing, the current situation in the banking and financial sectors, how to build strong synergy between the monetary and fiscal authorities, and how to get Nigeria out of its present economic difficulties.”
The lawmaker, who is also the Kaduna State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship flagbearer for 2023, noted that the screening session was robust and interactive, adding: “The nominees exhibited high level of understanding of the Nigerian economy, as well as the challenges, intricacies and opportunities of the Nigerian financial sector. No petition was received in respect of any of the nominees.”
MEANWHILE, the Minority Whip of the House of Representatives, Gideon Gwani, has applauded Buhari for assenting to the Environmental Health Council Bill, 2022 and Raw Materials Research and Development Council Bill, 2022.
The President assented to the two bills on Thursday, August 25, 2022.
Gwani, representing Kaura Federal Constituency of Kaduna State, in a statement, yesterday, also congratulated the leadership and members of the 9th National Assembly for the feat.
According to Gwani, who sponsored the two bills, the Act amends the Environmental Health Officers (Registration, etc.) Act No. 11, 2002 to re-designate the Council, enhance its powers and professionalise the practice of environmental health profession in Nigeria, make provision for appointment and tenure of the Registrar, among others.”
