The United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS), in an advisory released, yesterday, in Maiduguri, said: “We have a course to believe that the insurgents have perfected plans to abduct our humanitarian workers.”
Banki is a border town with Cameroon.
However, the UNDSS statement said that no specific time was revealed for the planned abduction of staff.
It said: “As a mitigation measure, the UNDSS FSA has alerted all heads of agencies (HoAs) and Security Focal Persons (SFP) to the impending threat.
“It also advised them to ensure that staff vulnerability should be avoided,” noting that this will also reduce the level of exposure of any kind to humanitarian workers in Banki.
ANOTHER report has it that Boko Haram attacked the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on Monday, killing scores of them in Konduga Council of Borno state.
It, reportedly, happened on October 24 as Boko Haram carried out coordinated attacks targeted at Bole and Yale camps of ISWAP.
A counter-insurgency expert in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, stated, yesterday, in Maiduguri that ISWAP lost three of its fighters to the rival terror group.
According to him, ISWAP had, this week, attacked an enclave of Boko Haram insurgents in Gajibo and killed six of them, describing the slain terrorists as infidels.
He added that the Boko Haram terrorists, who vowed to revenge the killings of its Mujahedeens, dispatched 60 fighters from the Abu-Iklima’s camp to attack ISWAP.
Makama said Boko Haram fighters overran ISWAP insurgents, killing some of them.
It was gathered that besides the killings, the Boko Haram terrorists seized their weapons, motorcycles, money and other items, after a fierce clash between the two terror groups.
“Boko Haram terrorists outnumbered ISWAP as they fired from three strategic positions,” he said, stating that the terrorists also torched ISWAP makeshift houses, forcing some of them to retreat from the fierce gun battle.
“But as the Boko Haram were returning from the attack, the ISWAP laid an ambush against them and killed three of them while others retreated,” he said.
