Architects launch tree planting campaign in Niger

The Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA), Niger State chapter, has flagged off tree planting exercise to commemorate 2022 World Architect Day.

The state Chairman of the organisation, Bako Mohammed, alongside other members, embarked on planting of 1,000 different species of trees in Minna, the state capital, at the weekend.

Mohammed maintained that the exercise was targeted at addressing challenges of disertification, and to mitigate the effect of climate change with rest of the world.

He further stated that tree planting symbolises hope, continuity of life, filtered air, fresh drinking water, assist coping with climate change, as well as create avenue for majority of plant species and animals.

“We are synergising with relevant authorities in charge of forestry to make sure that falling of trees in our cities and bushes is checked to preserve the environment,” Mohammed said.

The recipients of the tree donation lauded members NIA in the state for the donation, adding that it came at the right time. They enjoined other Nigerians to join the campaign and culture of tree planting for the fight against global warming and flooding.

The tree planting exercise was carried out in public and private organisations, schools, mosques and churches, which include: Limawa Modern Primary School, Abdulsalam Youth Centre, Bank of Agriculture, Central Mosque, and Ecwa Church, in Minna.
