The All Progressives Congress (APC), yesterday inaugurated a 49-member campaign council at its headquarters in Abuja, ahead of the November 26 governorship polls in Ondo State.

The party’s candidate, Rotimi Akeredolu, who spoke after the inauguration, expressed hope that he would win the election.

He explained that his main task is to mend fences with the aggrieved members of the party.

He dismissed the possibility of a threat from Olusola Oke, who recently defected from the APC to the Alliance for Democracy (AD), as governorship candidate.

Akeredolu said the contest would be a straight fight between the APC and the Peoples Democratic Part (PDP).

“Oke is not a threat to us, if he chooses to contest in a dead party.

“We are solidly on ground in this election. Our members who were aggrieved and who worked tirelessly to ensure that we remain one, are back on track. Among them is Senator Boroffice who had filed a petition against us.”

Akeredolu explained that virtually all the aggrieved members had returned to the party.

“I want to believe that my chances are very bright, we do not have any doubt that by the grace of God, we would win. You can see that there are Ondo men and women here, which means that we have the full support of our members.

“Also, we have the support of the two senators who are gladiators in the north and central senatorial zones. We also have the supports of our members in the House of Representatives.

The APC’s National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun, who inaugurated the council, expressed hope that the party would win in the state.

Simon Lalong heads the 49-member council, which comprises nine governors, nine ministers and members of the National Assembly.

It also includes former governors, their deputies and deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yusuf Lasun.
