The Association of Senior Staff of Banks, Insurance and other Financial Institutions (ASSBIFI) has said the newly-constructed N600 million ultra-modern suites and event centre can create job opportunities for over 50 individuals.
Immediate past National President, Oyinkan Olasanoye, at the unveiling in Lagos, said the project is aimed at growing its internally generated revenue (IGR) as well as creating employment opportunities. She explained that the construction of the suites and event centre started over a decade ago with members’ levies and union dues.
“We have relied solely on members’ union dues and levies, which we pay once every three years. Whatever sum we realised was prudently invested in the building. The interior of the project is yet to be completed and to put the centre to commercial use,” she added.
Unveiling the project, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, who was represented by the State Controller, Lagos State Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, Nnamdi Enua, described the edifice as a product of sincere and honest leadership as well as prudent management of resources.
“It is not just a mystery, but a paradox how ASSBIFI is getting millions to embark on such a gigantic project. This is a legacy that will stand the test of time. We are happy that you are not limiting yourselves to check-off dues,” he said.
He also lauded the union for diversifying into agriculture. He commended the leadership of the association for prudent management of resources, even as he called on other unions to emulate the union.
