Enugu assembly seeks stakeholders’ support for Ugwuanyi to fight insecurity

• Gov hails oil producing status of state
The Enugu State House of Assembly has asked stakeholders to support the effort of the state governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, in tackling the security situation in the state.

The House, in a motion, yesterday, stated that all hands must be on deck, noting that there must be grassroots involvement in security.
House members, who commended the efforts of the governor in fighting insecurity, added that his administrative style has made Enugu one of the safest states in Nigeria in the last seven years. They, however, observed that he couldn’t continue to fight the menace alone.

Chairman, House Committee on Information, Jeff Mbah, stated that the collaborative approach became necessary, because federal security agencies are no longer enough.

The House commended the establishment of Forest Guards by the governor, among other concerted efforts in the area of security.
In another development, following the outcome of recent meeting of Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) in Abuja, ratifying the request of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s administration for Enugu State to join other states in enjoying oil producing status, Ugwuanyi, yesterday, said he is delighted that the money, which would be coming to the state when he leaves office in May 2023, won’t be what his administration witnessed.

The governor, who spoke when a delegation of the University of Nigeria, Alumni Association (UNAA), Nsukka branch, paid him a solidarity visit at the Government House, Enugu, disclosed that his administration’s struggle to get Enugu listed as an oil producing state was a tough exercise.

He thanked God that the effort yielded desired result, saying: “As I am leaving office, I am happy that the money that will be coming to Enugu won’t be what I witnessed. It won’t be what we suffered.”

Speaking on behalf of Nsukka UNAA, the President of the association, Dr. Christy Obi-keguna, commended Ugwuanyi for his good works in the state in general and Nsukka zone in particular.

The UNAA President informed Ugwuanyi, who is the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Enugu North Senatorial District in the 2023 general elections, that the group is behind his senatorial bid.
