The Katsina State Government has overturned its decision not to allow presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, use the Olympic-size Muhammadu Dikko Stadium for his campaign rally.
The former vice president, who is expected to storm the state today for his campaign rally, had earlier been barred from using the 35,000 capacity stadium for his rally.
Citing ongoing repair works at the stadium, the state government had given option of using the Polo Ground or an old stadium located in the heart of the metropolis.
But the PDP, in the state, had chided the state government’s decision, wondering why it should be barred from using the facility when it was a PDP administration that constructed it.
However, in a letter, dated December 16, to the chairman of PDP in Katsina, the state government said the Atiku presidential campaign could go ahead and hold its rally in the facility.
According to the letter, the state government gave approval for use of the stadium “having achieved substantial progress in repair works.”
During his visit to the state, the former vice president is expected to visit emirs of Katsina and Daura, as well as mother to late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, Hajiya Dada.
