Mentorship is a phrase that has become not only common today but necessary in every area of professional life after the Covid incident. With the incident forcibly introducing technological transformational models to businesses, financial technology is a major business field that requires accelerated need to warm up to the transformational initiated by Covid.
However, its traditional outlook has made it seemingly impossible for struggling startups to adapt within a very short time. But it is as it may, it is important to state that mentorship from dedicated veteran professionals and developmental organisations in the field has been helping start ups to get a paradigm shift in adaptation.
One of these professionals is Afolabi Abimbola. Afolabi is the founder of Kredi, a US-based and Nigerian-operating “One-Stop Shop” digital bank, to eliminate the challenges of using multiple applications by consumers, and has had over 17 years of experience in financial technology. This veteran has since pre and post Covid era contributed to the development of many startups in Nigeria through his expert experience. According to him, his teachings have exposed many startups to secrets of funding and financial stability.
A major part of his mentorship efforts is his involvement with the Getfund Africa initiative, an initiative geared towards building Africa’s largest tech-enabled marketplace. This is done by providing education-based cohorts for founders and investors alike and connecting them with global mentors, coaches, corporates, investors, and product leaders.
For over a year now, Afolabi has fully involved himself with the GetFund Africa as a global mentor and has been heavily instrumental in helping to start about 20 financial technology companies.
Prior to his involvement with the GetFund Africa, Afolabi has mentored professionals at companies like Credit Plus and Opay, many of whom have established and stabilised their own startups.
Afolabi said his mentorship exploits covered his record as one of pioneering fathers of Funds and Electronic Transfer Solutions, a licensed mobile that enhanced lives with simple payment technologies.
