Nigerian social entrepreneur, Olaitan Taiwo, has been recognised alongside leading African women at the yearly African Women Economic and Leadership Forum and Awards (AWEFA) in Yaounde, Cameroon.

AWELFA is a yearly programme organised by African Vision Communications (AVICOMM) and hosted by Ruth Tembe Biz.

The award is under the auspices of the Minister of Small and Medium Size Enterprises, the Minister of Commerce and Trade and the Minister of Women’s Empowerment of the Republic of Cameroon.

Taiwo was awarded the Entrepreneurial Woman of the Year Award.

Her efforts towards contributing to socio-economic development are seen via her initiative-Vowen Africa, which focuses on helping youth discover purpose through volunteering and internship, as well as The Co Hub, which aims to create an environment where ideas of these youth as change makers can connect. With various programme, over 100 youth pass through Vowen Africa yearly, benefit and are equipped with the knowledge to solve problems affecting society by getting better at their career.

Taiwo said she counted it as a privilege to be ranked among the top African Women leaders, who were awarded for making a laudable impact.

She said: “It is a privilege to see that my works gain recognition, but to be honest, it wouldn’t have been possible without one of the women I look up to, Founder LINBIZ Magazine Global, Adeshola Onadipe, who is always shining a light on young women like me.”

Taiwo said more efforts are currently in place by the entire team of Vowen Africa and The Co Hub, to ensure more people are trained to scale their careers by equipping them with employability skills.

The awardee, who is also the founder of Coree Group, advised entrepreneurs to be more daring and turn their pain to the purpose, which will also be a channel to help others.

The event has in attendance the ex-President of the Republic of Ecuador, Rosalia Arteaga, the 2023 Presidential Candidate of Liberia, Macdella Cooper and other women in politics, business and leadership.
