Secondary school student arraigned over N20, 000 iron rod theft

Lagos, April 29, 2015 (NAN) For allegedly stealing an iron rod valued at N20,000 from a school, an 18-year-old student, Tobi Osho, was on Wednesday docked at an Abule Egba Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The accused, who lives at 2, Ajumoni St., Agbelekale in Abule Egba area of Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
According to the prosecutor, Insp. Racheal Williams, the accused committed the offences on April 24 at Ifesowapo Community Secondary School, Aboru in Ipaja, a suburb of Lagos.
She told the court that the accused with another still at large went to the school to steal the iron rod valued at N20, 000.
“They have successfully taken away the iron rod before they were sighted by the school’s security guards.
“Others ran away while the accused was apprehended,” she said.
Williams said the offences contravened Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The student pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Adenike Shonubi, granted him bail in the sum of N20, 000 with a surety in like sum.
The case has been adjourned to May 15 for trial.
