The Commander Corps of Supply and Transport, Major General Erema Akerejola, has challenged members of the Nigerian Army to strive for excellence and invest in knowledge-based activities.

Akerejola made the call at the end of officers training week in Ikeja, Lagos. The training with the theme: ‘Enhancing Operational Preparedness of Officers for Participation in Joint and Multi-agency Operations Within 81 Division AOR’, was designed to equip the officers with the necessary skills, knowledge and strategies to improve their leadership capacity and enhancement for optimal performance in the field.

General Akerejola, represented by Brigadier General Williams Etuk, said: “I am pleased to note that the three-day officers training week was no doubt a huge success; considering the quality of lectures and presentations by resource persons and level of interaction.

“I want to express my satisfaction with the passion of all the participants as well, for taking active part by way of comments, observations, contributions and suggestions.”

He added: “As officers, you play a vital role in the education and development of our soldiers who are often deployed in the field alongside personnel of other services and agencies.”

Speaking with the officers, he said: “I am confident that each one of you has gained valuable insights and practical tips on how to improve your tactical, operational, administrative and planning capacity. I urge you to apply what you have learned here in your military career and indeed your personal life, while also sharing your experiences with your colleagues.

“Remember knowledge is power and knowledge births confidence. The impact of this training will go a long way in shaping your future as well as improved operational and administrative output.”

Also the General Commanding Officer, 81 Division, Nigerian Army, General Obinna Ajunwa said the training was designed as a form of mentorship for junior commanders through cross-fertilisation of ideas and sharing operations and field experiences.

The GOC advised them to take advantage of the programme to build their leadership skills to enable them function optimally in their respective commands.

He thanked the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya for his commitment and support in activating this year’s Officers’ Training Week and the Army Headquarters Department of Training for selecting an appropriate theme, considering it very apt in proffering solutions to contemporary security challenges in 81 Division AOR in particular and the country in general.
