Katsina gov inaugurates 8th Assembly as Falgore emerges Speaker in Kano

• Sule, Lawan emerge Speakers in Plateau, Borno Assemblies

Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina, yesterday, inaugurated the 8th State House of Assembly, with Nasiru Yahaya (APC, Daura) emerging as Speaker.
Yahaya’s emergence had followed a consensus meeting, held on Monday, by elected lawmakers and the state governor, during which the position was zoned to his constituency.

The position of Deputy Speaker was zoned to the southern part of the state, with Abduljalal Haruna (APC, Faskari) emerging via consensus. Radda, who was represented by Clerk of the House, Lawal Dansulieman, also swore in the members of the House.

According to Dansulieman, the governor, at the Monday meeting, said the consensus decision was aimed at “strengthening unity and inclusiveness in legislative duties and delivering a people’s parliament” that citizens in the state would be proud of.

Other principal officers that emerged through consensus are: Shamshuddeen Dabai (House Leader); Mustapha Yusuf (Deputy House Leader); Ibrahim Dikko (Chief Whip) and Salisu Rimaye (Deputy Chief Whip).

Speaking, shortly after being sworn in, Yahaya said he would work closely with lawmakers and other stakeholders for socio-economic development of the state and its people.

Also, forty members of the Kano State House of Assembly unanimously endorsed Yusuf Falgore of New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) as Speaker of the 10th House of Assembly. Falgore represents Rogo constituency of the state.

Acting Clerk, Ali Maje, swore in the new Speaker and his deputy at the Assembly complex, yesterday. In Plateau, Moses Sule, the member representing Mikang constituency, emerged Speaker during inauguration of the state’s 10th Assembly. Sule is a member of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

MEANWHILE, Godson Fom, the member representing Jos South constituency, was elected Deputy Speaker. Bala Manji from Mangu was the pick for Majority Leader.

Similarly, the Borno State House of Assembly elected Abdulkarim Lawan as Speaker of the 10th Assembly. Lawan was Speaker of the 9th Assembly and had been Speaker, since the 6th Assembly.

Announcing Lawan’s emergence, yesterday, in Maiduguri, the Clerk, Jidayi Mamza, said: “The House received a proclamation from Governor Babagana Zulum to hold its first session on June 13, 2023.”

The House also retained the immediate past Deputy Speaker, Abdullahi Musa, who represents Askira/Uba constituency. Both members accepted their nominations and expressed readiness to serve. Lawan urged the newly inaugurated members to work closely with the executive arm to transform the state. Other principal officers include House Leader, Dige Mohammed and Chief Whip, Baba Ali Modu.
