Residents hail plan to rehabilitate Kaduna community roads

Senator Uba Sani

Residents of Ungwar Romi and Janruwan communities in Chikun Local Council of Kaduna State, yesterday,  expressed joy over the award of community access roads for construction and rehabilitation by Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani.

The two community roads were abandoned for several years by previous governments in the state, thereby hampering human and vehicular movements as well as businesses in the communities.

Some residents who spoke to The Guardian said it was a dream come true because they have been long abandoned, while their children were cut-off from receiving sound education as a result of inaccessibility to schools, can now go back to school.

The Mai Ungwar Duka Romi, Peter Maigemu and another resident, Sinum Hassan, commended Governor Sani on the prompt intervention to rehabilitate the roads in the two communities.

Maigemu said: “ The previous government promised to do the construction work on the roads, but they abandoned the work. Trucks and caterpillars were brought, and later they took them away. We felt abandoned for reasons we don’t know. Today, Governor Uba Sani has finally come to our rescue.”

In her comments, Hassan said: “Even those of us that grew up here saw the dilapidated roads as part of us, and no one could come to our rescue, but today we are grateful to the present government for putting smiles to all our faces again.”

Speaking to newsmen, yesterday, spokesperson for Ungwar Romi Development Association (URDA), Vincent Duniya, said  they are happy with the award of the contract in  fulfillment of the governor’s campaign promise of consolidation and continuity.

According to him, the award of contracts for the construction of Romi-Karatudu Road and Pro. Amos Road in Janruwa New Extension, was good news for the people of Chikun Local Council.

He said: “Romi-Karatudu Road spans six kilometres and is expected to be completed within 12 months, while Pro. Amos Road in Janruwa New Extension spans 0.7 kilometres and is expected to be completed within six months

“The projects are critical to improvement of transportation in the city, enhance drainage systems, and bring urban renewal to the grassroots.

“This is indeed a cheering news to residents of the two affected communities and the entire Chikun Local Council. This singular act has sent a signal that consolidation and sustaining Kaduna project is possible with His Excellency Senator Uba Sani and that Kadunites will live to attest to it.”

Duniya added: “It is imperative to point out the fact that most residents of Chikun Local Council felt neglected in the Urban Renewal Programme. The newly sworn-in administration through this initiative has brought spontaneous recovery, thereby making a bold statement that all inclusive governance has kicked-off in Chikun.

“Governor Uba Sani’s administration has now shifted its attention to delivering urban renewal to the grassroots and Chikun Local Council will witness tremendous projects of different magnitudes as the journey continues.”

Duniya urged Kaduna State government to ensure that all citizens have a sense of belonging in subsequent events.
