Hoodlums invade Ogbomoso, destroy cars, properties


Some suspected hoodlums, yesterday, invaded Ogbomoso town, Oyo State and destroyed cars, houses and other properties worth millions of naira.

The vandals destroyed valuables in some parts of Ogbomoso, including Aaje, Exchange, Ladanu and Ijeru areas. According to sources, the suspected hoodlums invaded the areas at about 12:00a.m. on Wednesday and operated for hours, destroying houses, cars and other property.
   
The Guardian gathered that the family house of a former member of the National Assembly, Jacob Adejumo Ajao, located at Eleruko compound, was also destroyed.
  
Two water tanks, one belonging to a trader at the Exchange area and the other belonging to Aaje Primary Health Centre were removed and burnt by the hoodlums.
   
The hoodlums also smashed six parked cars, two at Aaje, three at Ladanu and one at Ijeru. A victim at Ladanu Compound, who introduced himself as Fadipe Timothy, said his white Mercedes-Benz with registration number “AA909EJG” was vandalised.   He said the issue had been reported at Owode police station, Ogbomoso.
  
Also confirming the incident, the Alaaje of Aaje, Reuben Adesina Amao, said the hoodlums, whose identities are yet to be ascertained, destroyed many properties in the area.
  
He said the case has been reported to a higher authority, adding that security agents should be allowed to investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to book.

Amao said: “There was a similar incident last week. But this one is enormous. They destroyed many properties, including the family house of the former House of Representatives member, Captain Ajao. The governor has been contacted by our first-class Obas and they have contacted the Commissioner of Police.
  
“The security agents should continue to do their job. They will unravel the root cause of the matter and bring the perpetrators to book. It is their job.”
  
At press time, Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Adewale Osifeso, was yet to respond to calls and text messages sent to his phone for confirmation.
