Be a receptacle channel of God’s favour (3)

Our focus for the last three months has been on the theme, ‘God’s Uncommon Favour’. God’s favour is not common, but costly because Jesus gave his life for it. What came out of the sacrifice and sufferings of Jesus is not common but uncommon. “He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?” (Romans 8:32 KJV).

The journey to experiencing divine favour begins by knowing God. Those who experience God experience His life and favour. “For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the Lord,” (Proverbs 8:35 KJV). Those who experience God are made receptacles and channels of His favour.

Why is the favour of God so important? It is because God’s favour empowers us to be successful in life. God said to Israel: “God, your God, will outdo Himself in making things go well for you… and enjoy an all-around good life. Yes, God will start enjoying you again, making things go well for you just as He enjoyed doing it for your ancestors,” (Deuteronomy 30:9 MSG).

Favour is important because it is life giving and outlasts God’s anger. “He gets angry once in a while, but across a lifetime there is only love. The nights of crying your eyes out give way to days of laughter,” (Psalms 30:5 MSG).

God’s favour is important because it protects one like a shield. “For thou, Lord, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.” (Psalm 5:12 KJV).

God’s favour is important because it attracts and brings recognition. Favour confers significance on you. Favour brought recognition to Jacob and to Joseph.

“And Laban said unto him, I pray thee, if I have found favour in thine eyes, tarry: for I have learned by experience that the Lord hath blessed me for thy sake,” (Genesis 30:27; 39:4-5 KJV).

Favour paves the way for you in life. It lifts you to a position, which you can ordinarily not attain. Favour lifted Esther before the king, (Esther 2:15-17).

Favour gives you what your labour can hardly give to you. The children of Israel possessed the land of Canaan due to the favour of God. “For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a favour unto them,” (Psalm 44:3 KJV).

Favour elevates and promotes you in life. Favour promoted Ruth, Esther, Joseph, Daniel and Jacob in their callings and vocations.

Favour brings you honour. Esther enjoyed honour in Shusan and Joseph enjoyed honour in Egypt. Favour brought Mary from obscurity to prominence as the mother of our Lord Jesus Christ, (Luke 1:26-45).

Favour removed the reproach of Zechariah and Elizabeth and made them proud parents of a great prophet in Israel (Luke 1:5-25).

Favour makes you creative. Isaac creatively dug wells and got water in the land of Gerar. He succeeded in striking water in an environment believed to be dry and barren. He defied the threats of the Philistines and succeeded, despite stiff opposition (Genesis 26).

God’s favour restored David as king when Absalom led a rebellion against him (2 Samuel 15:25-26).

Favour makes provision for you in times of famine and emergency (Numbers 11: 10-15). Ruth secured a spot in the lineage of Jesus due to divine favour (Ruth 4:13-22). May your life be powered by God’s favour.
