Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, yesterday, joined Muslim faithful in the state to celebrate this year’s Eid-El-Kabir, assuring policies and measures to cushion the effect of current economic realities caused by the fuel subsidy removal by the Federal Government.

Obaseki, while speaking to Muslim faithful at the Government House, in Benin City, commended them for their collaboration and support to his government over the past six years.

The governor, represented by the Head of Service, Anthony Okungbowa, called for continuous prayers for the state and country to ensure lasting peace, unity and progress.

Obaseki said: “I thank the Muslim Community for support and prayers for my administration and the people of Edo State, as you have contributed to the many successes recorded by my administration.

“When the enemy of Nigeria wishes the nation down, it’s only by your prayers that the nation is still on its feet. It is part of the reason the country would not go down.

“Your prayers for the state have been responsible for our successes. I thank you very much and ask you to continue in your prayers.”

Also, the traditional ruler of Benin kingdom, Oba Ewuare II, yesterday, felicitated Muslim faithful across the world on the celebration of this year’s Eid-el-Kabir.

The monarch’s message was contained in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Osaigbovo Iguobaro, in Benin City. The Oba enjoined the Muslim faithful to pray for peace in the country, urging them to use the occasion to reflect on tenets of the Islamic religion as encapsulated in the Holy Qur’an.

He urged Muslims to use their personal devotion to pray God to grant the nation’s leadership good health, wisdom and the political will to salvage the country from economic morass to greater heights.
