Several residents of Ungwar Romi community have cried out to the Kaduna State Government over the invasion of criminal gangs terrorising some of the houses in the Government Reserved Area (GRA) in the community to wreck havoc, as hoodlums inhabit undeveloped market shops and buildings.

Besides, the Community also raised concern over the location of refuse dump site within the area, which has also constitute environmental hazard to the people residents in the community.

The Chairman of Gate-3 Security Committee of the Romi Old Nepa Field, GRA, Abagudu Dogo who raised alarmed of the invasion of criminals who broke into houses and carted away with properties, in an interview said that “the criminals carried out the theft during heavy rainfall in the midnight”.

He also expressed concern over the undeveloped market which the past Government created within the community, pointing out that “these criminals have now converted the uncompleted shops and buildings as their rooms to carryout their nefarious activities.

Dogo said, “honestly, security has been our greatest problem in this community since the government created this Romi GRA Old Nepa field community, with residents having well structured houses here. But, the Government created a market which was later abandoned and undeveloped. It is this undeveloped market that has now become the hide out of criminals to attack us”.

He remarked, ” in the evening and nights, you will not like the environment; you will see young boys, girls, adults drinking and smoking hemp, taking all sorts of things. It has been a big issue for us here”.

Dogo appealed to Governor Uba Sani to deploy Security Operatives to rid the environment of criminal elements.

He lamented, “there are uncompleted shops and other buildings that have been converted by the hoodlums into rooms . You see boys, girls and others people converging there, drinking, smoking and blaring music to cause environmental pollution. It is time the Government intervene and get rid of the criminal elements before it is too late.

Besides, a resident of the community who pleaded anonymity gave vivid account of how residents have been robbed of their properties within the last one month.

He explained that along Atteh Oyibo close, “thieves jumped into people’s buildings to remove air-conditioning engines from the wall of houses and generator. And also within the Romi community, they entered an hospital premises and carried gas cylinders that were already filled.”

Meanwhile, the Gate-3 Romi Community Chairman, Dogo has also appealed to the State Government to deploy it’s environmental officials to evacuate the refuse dump within the community, which has now become health hazard to the residents.

However, the Commissioner of Police in the State, Rabiu Mohammad at a press conference last Monday, said
“the Kaduna State Police Command has been working assiduously to ensure that the state is safer for all citizens. We work in conjunction with other security agencies, including the military, the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, vigilantes and other stakeholders.”

Muhammad appealed to residents to continue providing timely and credible intelligence, assuring them that the command would sustain ongoing operations aimed at flushing out criminal elements and safeguarding lives and property across Kaduna State.
