Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), yesterday, arrested a 35-year-old commercial motorcyclist, known as an Okada rider, for allegedly sodomising a 15-year-old boy in the state.

The suspect, Peter Nweke, was allegedly caught red-handed in the criminal act at his residence on Willy Bright Street, Abusoro axis, in the Akure South Local Council of the state. The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the NSCDC in the state, Daniel Aidamenbor, credited the collaborative efforts of vigilant residents in the community for the prompt arrest of Nweke.

While parading the suspect at the state headquarters of the corps, Aidamenbor said some community members had observed Nweke’s suspicious activities involving the victim for some time before taking action.

Aidamenbor said: “Nweke Peter will always lure his victim from school to his house and return the victim to their house in close proximity at about 1800 hours daily.

“The neighbours noticed this trend and reported it to the landlord. The suspect was arrested with the collective effort of the community, which observed the strange movement of the suspect around his residence on a daily basis.

“On Thursday, July 6, he was caught in the act of molesting the child, but ran away. On Tuesday, July 11, the suspect ran out of luck, and was apprehended by the victim’s uncle and handed over to the Command.

“The action of the suspect contravened sections 31(1)(2) of the Ondo State Child’s Right Law 2007 and section 3(1)(a)(b)(c) of the Ondo State Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law 2021.”

Aidamenbor added that the suspect would be charged in court at the conclusion of investigation.
