The Lagos Metropolitan Lions Club, District 404B2, has donated food items and other materials to special needs students of Modupe Cole Memorial Child Care and Treatment Home School, Akoka, Yaba.

Also, to mark the World Conservation Day, being celebrated on every July 28, the club planted trees and fumigated the child care home.

President of the club, Jennifer Onwuta, who spoke at the event, said the club places importance on its humanitarian obligations and activities, and sees the need to assist students with special needs by making a difference in their lives.

Onwuta said the government could not alone handle such challenges, but Nigerians must do what they could to put a smile on these students’ faces.

She said what she saw and heard at the home unsettled her and only served to elevate her level of concern for the students.

She, therefore, promised that the club would continue to provide support, especially on things that are still in critical needs for the home.

Onwuta, while commending members of staff and other caregivers of the home for taking care of the children, also promised that the club would not abandon the home but also provide further assistance.

Meanwhile, Zonal Chairman, District 404B2, Ajayi Folajimi Christopher, who hailed members of staff of the home for their commitment, said their work was in line with the core values of the club.

He, however, appealed to Nigerians to emulate the club and assist the less privileged.

In his remarks, Vice Principal of the school, Isaac Ajani, said the home was the brainchild of a philanthropist, the late Mrs. Modupe Cole, who established it first in Surulere in 1960. He said since then, the home has grown to include a school and vocation training centre for special needs children.
