Osun guber: Concerns as APC senator threatens to kill Accord members

Fadahunsi addressing supporters

The senator representing Osun East, Francis Fadahunsi, has declared war on members of Accord Party ahead of the Saturday’s gubernatorial election.

He triggered panic in the ancient town after ordering his supporters under the All Progressives Congress, to kill any Accord Party member seen in Ilesa before the election.

Fadahunsi made the comment on Tuesday during a protest to the palace of Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Owa Adesuyi Haastrup.

The lawmaker was at the palace alongside other chieftains of the party and their supporters to lodge their displeasure over what he termed incessant killings of the APC members in Ijesaland.

Speaking in Yoruba, Fadahunsi, in a video circulating online, said, “If we hear about any Accord member in Ilesa, we will kill him.”

Recall that three people lost their lives in a violent clash which occurred around the Imo Area of Ilesa, Osun State on Monday evening.

Sources within the community said that the clash was between supporters of the APC and the Accord Party.

However, the state Police Command said the incident was cult-related clash involving suspected members of the Aiye and Eiye confraternities.

In a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, obtained in Osogbo on Tuesday, the command stated that the clashes occurred around 8:00 p.m on Monday.

Upon receipt of a distress call from the area, the command said the Commissioner of Police in charge of the 2026 Osun State Governorship Election, Samuel Etaifo, directed the deployment of operatives of the Violence Crime Response Unit to the scene of the crime.

The statement read partly, “The Osun State Police Command wishes to inform members of the public that there was a reported cult-related clash between suspected members of the Aiye and Eiye confraternities in the Imo area of Ilesa, Osun State, at about 8:00 p.m.

“Following the incident, three persons, identified as Idowu, Yinka and Eja, all yet to be properly identified, were reportedly shot dead.

“Upon receipt of the information, the Commissioner of Police in charge of the 2026 Osun State Governorship Election, CP Samuel Erale Etaifo, PSC, MNIPS, immediately directed the deployment of operatives of the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU) to the area to prevent further escalation, apprehend those responsible and restore calm.”

From the scene of the crime, the command said four expended cartridges and two Android mobile phones were recovered, adding that preliminary investigations have commenced into the occurrence.

“The Command is also working to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify all persons connected with the clash.

The CP Election has directed the VCRU operatives and other tactical teams to intensify patrols, surveillance and intelligence-led operations within Ilesa and adjoining areas, particularly around identified flashpoints, to forestall any reprisal attack,” the statement read.

The Command warned members of rival cult groups and other criminal elements against taking advantage of the incident to cause further violence.

The police said any person found engaging in cult-related violence, reprisal attacks, unlawful possession of firearms or other criminal activities will be arrested and made to face the full weight of the law.

It also appealed to the residents of Ilesa to remain calm and law-abiding, avoid spreading unverified information, and promptly report suspicious movements or activities to the Police.

Reacting, the Imole Campaign Council has raised the alarm over the disturbing trending video.

“The video which has been confirmed by several persons is a confirmation of the information we have gathered in the last couple of weeks as to the importation of thugs, hoodlums and fake policemen into Ilase, the hometown of the Senator and some other towns of Obokun, Oriade, Ilesa East & West and Atakumosa East & West local Government.

This open incitement to kill by the senator coupled with the threat against the lives of family members of the Accord is to say the least despicable and stands condemnable. We equally note that in the same video, Senator Fadahunsi invoked the usual boast about federal might to threaten that even if members of our political party present their voters cards at the polling unit on Saturday, his thugs will prevent them from voting.

Coming from a serving member of the National Assembly who swore to uphold the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, we feel compelled to demand that the inspector General of Police and the Director General of the Department of State Security order the arrest of senator Fadahunsi and prosecute him in accordance with relevant laws of the Federation,” Bamidele Salam,
Chairman, Media and Publicity of the TICC said in a statement on Tuesday.

The campaign council demanded that all security formations charged with the conduct of Saturday elections pay particular attention to the six local government in Ijeshaland in order to protect the lives of party members and every other law-abiding citizens who will come out to exercise their franchise.

He said, “We also demand that security agencies flush out armed thugs and fake policemen whom we are reliable informed have quarted in Ilase Ijesha and several other parts of Ijesha land by the senator representing Osun Senatorial district.
Let it be on record that as a party, we will hold Senator Ade Francis Fadahunsi responsible for any act of violence against any member of accord in Ijeshaland and indeed in other parts of the State and we will take all lawful steps to make senator Fadahunsi to account for any acts of killing and violence in accordance with local and internation law

The attention of the Inspector General of Police is equally drawn to operations of the IRT unit who Senator Fadahunsi had boasted severally of using to harass, intimidate and arrest leaders of the Accord. It is indeed on record that one of the aides of Senator Fadahunsi named ASP Wemimo had been the one leading IRT personnel to the homes of Accord party leaders in Ijeshaland in the past weeks. Our House of Reps candidate, Alaba Popoola who was abducted by this team on the instructions of Fadahunsi has still not been released by the Police.

While urging all law abiding citizens in Ijeshaland to remain peaceful and law abiding, we wish to charge them to defy the threat by Senator Fadahunsi and go out enmass to vote their party of choice in the state Governorship Election holding on Saturday.”
