American Academy of Ophthalmology appoints UNILORIN don
Professor of Ophthalmology at the College of Health Sciences, University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) and Director of Computer Services and Information Technology (COMSIT), Dupe Ademola-Popoola, has been appointed as an international trustee-at-large of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) for three years.
The appointment of the Consultant Ophthalmologist at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) was announced by the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the world’s largest Academy of Ophthalmology via a letter dated June 28, 2023.
The letter signed by the Chief Executive Officer, Stephen McLeod, reads: “On behalf of the Board of Trustees, it is my pleasure to notify you that your appointment as an international trustee-at-large has been approved. The three-year term will begin on January 1, 2024. Your service on the academy’s Global Advisors Committee gives you a strong background in understanding the needs of our international members and we all look forward to your participation on the board next year.”
Ademola-Popoola is a renowned ophthalmologist and ophthalmology trainer of undergraduate, postgraduate and other healthcare workers. Her specialisation revolves around Paediatric Ophthalmology, Strabismus and Oncology; Administration and Project Management.
She has recorded ground-breaking feats in Ophthalmology and contributed greatly to scholarships and research, which brought laurels to UNILORIN, UITH and the country at large. The Don recently led some Nigerian doctors to perform the first treatment of cancer of the eye in Nigeria.
