Lagos State House of Assembly, yesterday, put the commissioner-nominees through a rigorous screening and drilling process, which bordered on their past achievements in life, family and academic backgrounds with documents to backup, their vision and agenda for the state, among others.
The screening began on Sunday during which 20 out of the 39 commissioner-nominees were screened. While some have been cleared, others were asked to re-appear for further clarifications before the committee. Some were also asked to go and correct irregularities on their certificates, just as the committee set up a separate panel to investigate the activities of some of them who had held public offices .
Those that had already faced the committee include Rotimi Ogunwuyi, Olarenwaju Layode, Tokunbo Wahab, Olajide Babajide, Olakunle Rotimi-Akudu, Mobolaji Ogunlede, Gbenga Ogunrinde, Jamiu Ali-Balogun, Lawal Pedro and Afolabi Ayantayo.
The lawmakers asked Ogunwuyi, a former sole administrator of Mosan Okunola Local Council Development Area (LCDA), to reappear before them after the Assembly must have set up a panel to fact-check what he claimed to have achieved during his tenure as sole administrator of the LCDA.
The Assembly said his response to questions was not satisfactory and that a committee would be set up to look at his activities during his tenure as sole administrator.
When asked about his accomplishments and achievements as a legislator, Ibrahim Olanrewaju Layode from Badagry Constituency said he maintained good relationship with fellow lawmakers but the Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, who sent in a text message, which was read on the floor of the House, denied having any amorous relationship with him.
On the part of Wahab, photocopies of his school leaving certificate and West African Examination Council (WAEC) results were not included in his documents. He was asked to pick another date for his screening.
Babajide, who claimed not having cordial relationships with leaders in his constituency, denied that Murphy endorsed him and that he could provide written evidence if necessary. He was asked to leave the screening floor for not responding as requested.
On Ogunlede, the names on the certificates he submitted varied. He was asked to leave.
