Rotary Club of Egbeda District 9110 has doled out grinding and welding machines to female and male artisans to support their businesses.

President, Rotary Club of Egbeda, Babatunde Lawal, said the machines were part of the club’s economic empowerment projects for widows and indigent artisans in the community.

He said it was meant to support their trade in line with government’s goal of promoting vocational training and studies, which the club has set up through its training centre.

“Some of the women are widows and unemployed. We also have artisans. This project will help them cater for themselves, uplift the standard of living of their families and ensure they train their children in schools. This also shows what Rotary club is all about, which is giving back to the society,” he said.

He listed other projects of the club to include vocational training for catering, fashion designing, among others, as well as adult literacy class.

The District Governor, Rotary International, District 9110, Ifeyinwa Ejezie, who commended the club for its economic empowerment initiative to support the indigents in the society, said empowerment of the people is vital as it will better their lives and reduce criminality in the society.

She said the machines would support their businesses and enable them feed their families and train their children to become better citizens in the society. She, therefore, urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the machines and ensure proper maintenance.
