
One person was, yesterday, confirmed dead when a truck rammed into a shopping complex in Jos, the Plateau State capital. The Guardian gathered that the incident happened on Tuesday night when the driver of the vehicle lost control.
An eyewitness, who pleaded anonymity, told newsmen at the scene of the incident, yesterday, that five other occupants of the truck sustained injuries, adding that one of them had a deep cut on his neck.
According to him, the incident occurred at about 11:00p.m. during a heavy rain around the D/B Zang Junction in Jos South Local Council of the state.
It was learnt that the victims were evacuated by police officers, who rushed them to a hospital for medical attention.The truck also destroyed electrical installations, including the only transformer that supplies power to residents of Gyel District of Bukuru, the headquarters of Jos South Local Council.
The truck was loaded with bags of sweet potatoes, along the Jos-Abuja Expressway, when the incident occurred. It was further gathered that it was a field day for residents who defied the heavy rains to pick the scattered potatoes for their use.
