Nothing is profoundly reshaping our world as technology does. Across industries, the wave of technological advancements is helping to bring the world together, promote integration and create a world that is at odds with anything that came before.

The music landscape in Nigeria is something that is benefiting from these technological advancements more than most places. A little over 10 years ago, it would have been almost impossible to visualise a world where African music was globally consumed, followed, and dissected with such rapt attention.
Through Internet-powered tools and DSPs primarily, Nigerian music is reaching global audiences in a way that it previously did not. One of the most integral parts of this evolution that we’re witnessing is music distribution, the pipeline through which artists get their songs and content on the platforms of the most crucial digital service providers that service music listeners. A number of music distribution services have sprung forth in Nigeria in the last five years but few possess the combination of youthful rigour and dynamism that is making Azuri Music a brand to reckon with.
Founded by Akorede Asunni in Lagos in 2021, Azuri Music was borne out of its creator’s fascination with music after a childhood spent discovering music from across the world. That dream has helped build an organization that is quickly becoming one of the most fascinating music distribution boutique firms in Nigeria. The modus operandi that guides Asunni’s approach remains providing crucial logistical support to the artists that need it the most.
“I just basically believe in young guys,” he says. “The underdogs fascinate me. People who you conventionally would not give a chance. Obviously, like every Nigerian, I’m a sucker for a grass to grace story. I love stories that go, ‘Nobody expected this person to do this thing or this thing to happen like this, but then, it just happened.’ I think that basically was the crux of my decision.”

Since its foundation in 2021, Azuri Music has continued to achieve an ascending level of success, helping to orchestrate the breakthrough of Babyboy AV, as well as the propulsive success of 2023 breakout star, Spyro. Their success has not only been limited to newcomers with others like Spy Shitta, Wizard Chan, Nana Fofie, Jaywillz, Yhaw Hero, Victor AD, and Timi Dakolo to name a few working with Azuri Music in the span of its two years of existence.
Now, with the foundation pretty settled, Akorede is turning his focus to the future of his firm and he’s pretty resolute on building an organisation that doesn’t stray too far from its roots but still manages to be on the path of exponential success. “The vision for Azuri Music is to be the first-stop distribution platform for independent and signed artists in Africa and over time, the world,” he admits. “The success we’ve had over the last two years is a testament to the great team we have and our commitment to precise marketing of the records.”
