Tinubu’s reforms yielding results, says ANAN

The Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) has hailed Federal Government’s moves to stem corruption and improve the public financial management (PFM) systems.

Speaking during the fourth session of its Mandatory Continuing Professional Development (MCPD), Edo 2023, with the theme, “Understanding financial disclosures on sustainability,” in Benin City, the President/Chairman of Council, Dr James Neminebor, submitted that the reforms have yielded successes to an extent.

While restating his association’s commitment to driving excellence in the financial sector, he stressed that no nation could develop beyond the competence of its public sector and technological capacity.

“It is imperative to note that the expertise of professional accountants in deploying competence in automated financial transactions is cogent in plugging leakages and enabling transparency.”

“In stemming the tide of corruption in Nigeria and improving the quality of the nation’s Public Financial Management (PFM) systems, the government  designed series of reforms, some of which are: Government  Integrated Financial Management  Information System (GIFMIS); Automated Accounting  Transaction Recording and Reporting System (ATRRS); Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS); International Public Sector  Accounting Standards (IPSAS), among others,” Neminebor said.

He added that in driving financial management reforms in the public sector, there is need for stronger institutional frameworks in strengthening fiscal discipline, transparency, probity and accountability in the management of public finances.

The ANAN boss explained that the training was to explore the changing landscape of the public sector vis-a-vis the need for transparency in financial  transactions and accountability  of public funds.
