The Accord Party’s governorship candidate in Taraba state, Professor Jerome Nyameh, has outlined an ambitious agricultural development agenda, pledging to transform the state’s farming sector into a major driver of economic growth if elected.

Nyameh said his administration would reposition agriculture as a profitable business by strengthening market access for farmers, promoting agro-processing, providing timely agricultural information, and reducing post-harvest losses to improve farmers’ incomes and livelihoods.

He also promised to mechanize agriculture by making modern farming equipment and technology more accessible, with the aim of increasing productivity across the state.

As part of his agricultural blueprint, the Accord candidate said his government would identify strategic locations for large-scale dry-season rice farming in Gassol, Donga, Wukari, Ardo Kola, Ibi, Karim Lamido, Bali, and Lau local government councils.

He added that a modern state-owned rice mill would be established to create jobs, enhance food security, and boost the state’s internally generated revenue.

Nyameh further pledged to promote value addition through the processing and packaging of rice and other agricultural products, while giving priority to livestock development to position Taraba as a leading producer of livestock and dairy products.

The governorship hopeful also announced plans to establish Agro-Cities across the state, describing them as centres where agriculture would be treated as a profitable enterprise capable of attracting investment, creating industries, empowering young people, and stimulating rural economic development.

According to him, the Mambilla Plateau would be developed into a global hub for dairy, tea, and coffee production, leveraging its favourable climate to drive economic prosperity.

Nyameh said agribusiness forms a key component of his THERAPY development agenda, noting that the “A” in the acronym stands for Agribusiness. He maintained that unlocking the state’s agricultural potential would be central to achieving sustainable economic growth and improving the livelihoods of residents.

The Accord candidate concluded by reaffirming his campaign slogan, stating that “Taraba Deserves Better” and expressing confidence that “A New Taraba is Possible.”
