Rotary Club of Canal Estate in partnership with Rotaract Club of Platinum Minds organised Garri Fellowship and distributed over 100 bags of garri along side other beverages in Lagos.
Speaking about the event, the President of Rotary Club of Canal Estate, Gbolahan Akerele, explained that the Garri Fellowship is an event to tell the world how garri is an important meal that has been saving lives of both the rich and poor for centuries in Nigeria.
He said it was necessary to give back to the society, which necessitated the distribution of over 100 hundred bags with garri alongside milk, kulikuli, juice and sugar.
Akerele said the event was also to symbolise garri with Rotary in terms of leadership and saving lives, which Rotary international has been doing across the world for over 100 years.
Akerele said he joined Rotary Club of Canal Estate because of his passion to give back to the society, while also inviting non-Rotarians to join Rotary to do more good to the world
“Rotary International gave me this beyond my expectations. Just as garri has been saving our lives, Rotary International has been saving lives for over 100 years, please join Rotary as we give hope to world,” he said.
The Managing Director of LAKKANI Integrated Nigeria Ltd, Mr. Azeez Agunbiade, exposed the audience to the demand for garri at the international market.
He said, while the Federal Government supports the export of garri, the audience should invest in cassava farming as well as garri packaging and merchandising beyond Nigeria to earn foreign currencies.
Agunbiade further urged the audience to key into the government and private intervention funds such as loans and grants to become international or domestic garri merchants.
The Solution Advisor, Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited, Mr. Taiwo Awonaiya, who was a guest speaker, charged the audience to adopt and apply enviable leadership style in their professional, social, family and personal lives.
According to him, right leadership style prevents the society and generations from deepening decay and casualties.
